Hon'ble Kumari Justice INDIRA BANERJEE

Born on 24th September, 1957. Educated at Loreto House, Calcutta, Presidency College, Calcutta and Calcutta University College of Law. Enrolled as an Advocate on 5th July, 1985 and practiced both in the Original and Appellate Sides of Calcutta High Court in all branches of law except criminal law. Appointed permanent Judge of Calcutta High Court on 5th February, 2002.Transferred to Delhi High Court w.e.f. 08th August, 2016. Elevated as Chief Justice of Madras High Court and assumed charge on 05.04.2017

Practiced for nearly 22 years in the Madras High Court, Tamil Nadu State and Central Administrative Tribunals on Constitutional and Service Matters. Represented the Government of Tamil Nadu, in Tamil Nadu State Administrative Tribunal, Madras and High Court (Civil Side), as Government Advocate and as Additional Government Pleader, for the Departments of Education, Prohibition and Excise, Cinema and Co-operative. Appeared for the Selection Committee (Medical Admissions), Counsel for Tamil University, Tanjore, Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Madras. Panel Counsel for International Airport Authority of India, BSNL, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., Dindigul Central Co-operative Bank; Tamil Nadu Adi-Dravidar Housing and Development Corporation. Appeared for the Registry, High Court, Madras. Senior Central Government Standing Counsel for Government of India, from July’ 2004 and redesignated as Assistant Solicitor General of India. Appointed as Additional Judge of the Madras High Court on July 31st, 2006 and as permanent Judge on November 9th, 2009.

Born on 12.01.1961 in Chennai.  Did schooling in Hindu Higher Secondary School, Triplicane and graduated in Law from the Madras Law College.  Enrolled on 18.01.1984 with the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and worked in the offices of Mr. K.M.Srirangan and Mr. P. Rajamanickam, the then Public Prosecutor.  Appointed as Additional Special Public Prosecutor for NDPS Act cases in 1993 for Trial Courts in Chennai and as Special Public Prosecutor for NDPS Act cases in the Madras High Court in 2001.  Also appointed as Special Public Prosecutor for CBI, DRI, Customs and Excise.  Earned rich experience both on the trial and appellate sides.  Established a Law Firm in the name of Norton & Grant.  Was a Member of the Editorial Board of Madras Law Journal (Criminal) and regular contributor of articles to Current Tamil Nadu Cases.  Passionate in teaching by conducting various programmes.  After ceasing to represent as Special Public Prosecutor for NDPS cases, in keeping with the dignity of the profession, declined to appear for any accused in NDPS cases. Appointed as Additional Judge, High Court of Madras on 11.10.2013.

Hon'ble Mr. Justice M. SUNDAR

Justice M.Sundar was born on 19th July, 1966 in Chennai, he graduated in Law from the Madras Law College, belongs to the first batch of 5 years integrated Law Course and he enrolled as an Advocate in 1989. He practiced primarily in the Madras High Court and had a wide spectrum of practice on the Civil Side. He was standing counsel for TWAD Board, Government of Tamil Nadu between 2003 and 2006. He was sworn in as permanent Judge of the High Court of Judicature at Madras on 05.10.2016.

Hon'ble Dr. Justice G.JAYACHANDRAN

Dr.G.JAYACHANDRAN born on 01.04.1965 at Vellore to Mr.R.Gopalan and Mrs.G.Rukmani. He hails from agricultural family.

He had his primary education at St.Mary's Convent, Vellore and higher secondary education at Voorhees Higher Secondary School, Vellore.

He joined the Law College at Chennai in the year 1983. He belongs to the first batch of five years integrated law course.

He joined M.L., in the Department of Legal studies at Madras University and shared the first rank in M.L (International Law & Constitutional Law) along with Mr.G.Gurusamy, I.R.S., for the year 1990.

In the year 2001, he was conferred with Doctorate in Law by the University of Madras for his thesis on `Trafficking and control of Narcotic Drugs in India`.

He enrolled as an Advocate on 28.10.1988 at Tamil Nadu Bar Council and joined the office of Late Mr.N.Meenakshisundaram (Father of Hon'ble Mr.Justice M.Sathyanarayanan). Later, worked under Mr.K.R.A.Muthukrishnan, Dr.T.S.Ramaswamy and Late.Mr.P.Rajamanickam. He, along with Mr.P.N.Prakash (later Hon'ble Mr.Justice P.N.Prakash) and Mr.S.Rajendirakumar, established the Law Firm “Norton and Grant”. He has handled cases both before the Trial Courts and Appellate Courts.

In the year 1998, he was appointed as Additional Central Government Standing Counsel to represent Central Government in Madras High Court. Under the guidance of the then Additional Solicitor General Mr.V.T.Gopalan, he appeared on behalf of several Central Government Departments and institutions including Customs, CISF and BSNL.

Under the tutelage of Late P.Rajamanickam, the legendary prosecutor, handled cases of NCB and CBI in the respective Special Courts since 1996. Also served as Special Public Prosecutor of CBI in trial Courts at Chennai.

Assumed charge as District Judge at Trichy on 06.06.2005.

Served as:

First Additional District Judge, Coimbatore, Special Judge for Central Bureau of Investigation cases, Coimbatore.

Additional Director and Director of Tamilnadu State Judicial Academy.

Special Judge for NDPS Act cases, Chennai

Principal District Judge, Thiruvallur and

Principal Judge, Chennai.

Between July 2011 and February 2015, served as Law Secretary to the Government of Tamilnadu.

Elevated as Judge of Madras High Court on 5th October 2016.

Born on 14th December 1964 as sixth generation in a family of Lawyers and Judges to Sri C.V. SIMHARAJA SASTRI and Smt. SARASWATHY S. SASTRI. 

Did initial schooling at St. JOSEPH`S PRESENTATION CONVENT, Royapuram, Chennai, and later completed High School from St. MARY`S HIGHER SECONDARY SCHOOL, Armenian Street, Chennai and Higher Secondary from HINDU SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL, Triplicane, Chennai. Graduated in B.Sc. (Statistics) from MADRAS CHRISTIAN COLLEGE, Tambaram, Chennai and in B.L. from Dr. AMBEDKAR LAW COLLEGE, Chennai. Later also completed M.L. from ANNAMALAI UNVERSITY and M.A. from MADURAI KAMARAJ UNIVERSITY. 

Enrolled as Advocate on 23rd August 1989 and joined the office of late Sri V.S. SUBRAHMANYAN, Advocate and Part-Time Professor, Madras Law College. Also established commendable individual practice. 

Selected as District Judge in Tamil Nadu State Judicial Service and joined service on 6th June 2005 as Trainee District Judge at Ramanathapuram. Served as II Additional District Judge (CBI Cases), Madurai, Additional and Principal Labour Court Judge at Vellore, Director, Tamil Nadu State Judicial Academy, Registrar (Vigilance), Madras High Court and finally as Chief Judge, Puducherry, during which period also served intermittently as Member Secretary, Puducherry Legal Services Authority.
